8. Hunting at Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge
Less than a 10-minute drive from Salt Plains State Park is the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge Public Hunting & Fishing Area where visitors can participate in controlled hunts during state-designated archery, muzzleloader and gun seasons. Hunters must aquire permits and apply through the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation's Controlled Hunting Program to hunt on public hunting grounds. The refuge also hosts special hunts for youths during deer and turkey seasons.
